Five Star Rylands extend lead at top of the league to seven points...

Blues score 5-0 victory against New Mills under the lights at Gorsey Lane...

Rylands put in a five-star performance under the floodlights at Gorsey Lane on Tuesday night, beating New Mills 5-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Hallmark Security League First Division South to seven points.

The game started at a frantic pace, with both sides going at each other from the get-go, but the first chance didn't come until the eleventh minute when the hosts worked the ball out to the left hand side and Tom Freeman's cross found Tom McNamara who glanced a header narrowly over the crossbar.

The visitors saw their first chance three minutes later when they hit the outside of the post with an almost inch-perfect free kick from twenty-five yards out.

It took until the twenty-ninth minute for the next chance to come, when Ste Boothman danced his way in from the right hand side and unleashed a left footed drive on goal which was turned around the post by the 'keeper.

The deadlock was broken from the resulting corner when the ball bounced in the six yard box and after a couple of ricochets, found its way in to the back of the net off the back of McNamara to give Rylands the lead.

Five minutes later, the advantage was doubled when Gary Kenny received the ball with his back to goal on the corner of the box, he turned his defender before firing a curling left footed effort in to the top corner!

It was all Rylands by this point, with Stuart Wellstead and McNamara both coming close before the interval.

HALF TIME - Rylands 2 v 0 New Mills

The second half started in the same frantic fashion as the first. The first chance came in the fifty-first minute when the blues hit on the counter attack and both McNamara and Boothman saw goal-bound strikes blocked by New Mills defenders.

Two minutes later, the visitors were reduced to ten men after Luke Hincks was dismissed for a challenge on Boothman in the middle of the park.

From the resulting free kick, the blues made it 3-0 when Warren Gerrard's free kick evaded everybody and found it's way in to the far corner with the 'keeper rooted to the spot.

The pace of the game slowed down with no chance to note until the seventy-sixth minute when Gerrard set away substitute Chris Francis who fired straight at Morrison in the New Mills goal.

McNamara netted his second from the resulting corner with a drive in to the corner after the visitors failed to clear their lines.

Rylands came close to a fifth as the game drew to a close, first McNamara was denied a hat-trick with an effort that smashed against the crossbar, before Tom Freeman's strike from twenty-five yards was acrobatically tipped over by Morrison.

The fifth did come in stoppage time however, when Liam Moran headed home at the back post from a deep Rylands corner.

Manager's Verdict
"New Mills started the game very brightly. They were certainly the better team for the first twenty minutes and were unlucky not to take the lead when they hit the post with a well struck free kick. Once we got the first goal, the game opened up which suited us and we played some really good stuff at times. Special mention to Gaz Kenny for a wonderful goal and to Tom McNamara who was a bundle of energy throughout. At this stage of the season it's important to put pressure on the chasing teams and with two wins in two, we have done just that and look forward to the visit of in-form Oswestry at Gorsey Lane on Saturday."
