Rylands competed the double and became the first ever winners of the Hallmark Security First Division Champions Cup after a 3-0 win over First Division North league winners, Longridge Town at AFC Darwen's WEC Anchor Ground on Tuesday night.
The blues flew out of the blocks, building a two goal lead inside the opening half-hour with goals from Ste Wolhuter and Stuart Wellstead before Tom McNamara added a third deep inside the second half.
Goal scorer and joint-manager, Wellstead said "Having a champion of champions game to sign off the season was a great way to end the campaign on a high. We spoke before the game about the number of goals both teams had scored (255 between them) so to restrict Longridge to one shot on target all game was really pleasing. They're a good footballing side but I think we defended brilliantly. We scored three great goals and put in a really pleasing performance to end our first year at this level. We've told the lads to enjoy their celebrations but Dave and I won't be resting on our laurels. We know what to expect next season and are looking forward to the challenge that awaits. I'd like to say a special thank you to the club committee, sponsors and fans who have supported us all season. It's greatly appreciated by every single one of us."
Rylands' other joint-manager, Dave McNabb added "We know going in to the game that it would be a tough one against a very strong side. We asked the lads for one last big performance and they delivered. The lads have been brilliant all season, I'm proud to be able to work with them and they deserve all the success they've achieved. We all look forward getting going again in pre-season in the summer."
